Good crash-test scores and standard automatic emergency braking make the Rogue a safe choice in any form. The interior is spacious enough for four adults, and the cargo area is fairly big given the somewhat petite 183-inch overall length. At 33 mpg combined in front-wheel-drive form (or 31 mpg with optional all-wheel drive), it does a good job of emphasizing thrift. The 201-hp turbo-3 packs a lot of power into a small engine, but it’s stuck with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that wants to keep revs low to maximize fuel economy. Its myriad angles and lines outside work best with the available two-tone paint scheme, but at least you don’t have to see its busy headlights from the interior. The Rogue remains a five-seat crossover SUV with an overstyled exterior and a soothing cabin.
